Melissa L. Garcia
Melissa Garcia is of counsel at the Pantazis Law Firm. She is licensed to practice law in North Carolina. Ms. Garcia’s practice focuses on Social Security Disability, and workers’ compensation. Ms. Garcia worked at the Pantazis Law Firm for 8 years prior to becoming an attorney. She is now of counsel to the firm assisting in special cases with unique legal issues involving Social Security Disability and workers’ compensation matters, as well as Spanish-speaking clients.
In addition, Ms. Garcia has her own law firm, the Garcia Law Firm, which focuses primarily on Social Security Disability for adults and children, workers’ compensation, and Medicaid appeals for disabled children. Ms. Garcia is a member of the Social Security Disability Advocacy Section of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice (NCAJ). Ms. Garcia devotes her pro bono hours to representing children with disabilities with their Medicaid appeals, as well as unaccompanied alien minors with Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) applications.
Melissa received her B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2012, where she majored in History and Secondary Education. She attended law school at Charlotte School of Law, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. During law school, Melissa was Articles Editor for Charlotte Law Review, and a member of the Order of the Crown honor society. In addition, she worked as a volunteer judicial law clerk at the Charlotte Immigration Court, where she drafted decisions and performed research for cases before the court.
Melissa grew up in the Charlotte, NC, but also lived in Venezuela during her childhood. She is fluent in Spanish and conversational in German. After undergrad, Melissa joined Teach For America and taught Spanish at two high needs schools in Charlotte, NC. From her experience as a teacher, she learned that she could make a greater impact through the law and decided to attend law school.
Melissa enjoys spending time with her family and her dog. Her many hobbies include traveling, hiking, dancing, learning new languages, and studying new cultures.
